A Note from Jim:
“In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.” --Luke 2:1
I
was meditating on the birth of Jesus as I watched a Christmas
presentation recently, and this verse was read. What came to my
mind was the fact that the world was under one authority and one world
power at the time that Jesus arrived in the flesh the first
time. The world will be under one authority and power when He
returns to the earth in the flesh the next time too! Then I started
to think about how God was working out His wonderful plan of redemption
even in the midst of all the disruptions and difficulties that His
followers had to endure because of the overreach of the
government. Joseph and Mary were forced to leave home and be
registered so they could be taxed. Yet, as they obeyed, God was
working at the exact same time to use them and their “predicament” to
accomplish His long prophesied plans. This was an
encouragement to me. This past Easter, God showed me that even
though wicked men were planning behind the scenes to kill Jesus,
it too was all in accordance with God’s sovereign plan. Jesus
actually told Judas exactly when he was to go and do what he had
planned (John 13:21-30).
God is in full control now too, just as He always has been! The
Bible says that Jesus was born at just the right time, and
likewise He was crucified at just the right time (Galatians 4:4-5,
Romans 5:6). Be encouraged this
Christmas Season! Everything is right on schedule! God’s
plans will be accomplished! We are all to live the lives that God
has planned for each of us and worship Him by obeying Him in the
midst of the world’s chaos. One day we too will be able to look back and
see all that God did through these days for His glory, and praise Him
for His wonderful plan that we did not see at the time.
